Remembrance Display to Commemorate Britain’s Longest Serving Poppy Seller
Donna Matthews, our funeral arranger at recently opened Burpham branch, explains her wonderful Remembrance window display:
“To commemorate the centenary of Armistice Day, I thought it fitting to remember Burpham’s fallen. The War Memorial is situated in the churchyard of St Luke’s Church and I have listed the name and rank of local soldiers under a picture of the memorial.
“I have also added a tribute honouring Rosemary Powell MBE, Britain’s longest serving poppy seller who sadly passed away in August this year aged 103. Rosemary started selling poppies with her mother on Richmond Bridge when she was just 6 years old and had planned to retire after this years’ appeal. She died 9 days after receiving her MBE.
“The artwork around the window is from the children at the local Burpham Primary School.”
